One day and one night in Bangkok with 5 of the most fun people I know. It sounds like a disaster in the making, but our 24 hours in Bangkok was a great stop. We got in late from the islands down south. Jack, Ben, and Rob got in even later than us. We had a midnight reunion and headed to the biggest party street in Bangkok, Khao San Road.
Since we got there after midnight, it was already full of drunken shenanigans. Food stalls, bars, street venders, and crowds lined the street as if it was one big street-long party. A vender walked by with fried scorpions on a stick and I had to try one. My mindset of this trip is try every crazy, weird, different food, or activity I can. When will I see a scorpion on a stick again!? I got one for a dollar and was pleasantly surprised. The spices and the crunch made a great combo for a strange treat. By the end of the night, half our group had gotten one, all with positive reviews.
The next day we decided to make a quick tourist loop around town. We started at the Wat Pho Temple to see reclining Buddha. After seeing the main statue, we wandered around the temple grounds until we were all Buddhaed out, so we took a tuk tuk to the 32 meter high, Luang Pho To statue. Next stop was a clothing shop. The tuk tuk driver said they would get free gas from the clothing shop if they brought tourists there, so we complied. We walked in and were bombarded by workers offering to tailor us a suit. Who would have known half the group was going to order a suit by the time we left. The three of us that didn’t order one just got to take advantage of the free beer.
