Singapore is a very unique city. Though many said it was pricy and not to stay long, we found it to be very reasonable. We stayed on the edge of Little India, a food rich, cultured area with a mall around every corner. Singapore is well known for its malls. It seems like all Singaporeans do is eat and shop, followed by more eating and then shopping. The first few days in Singapore were somewhat lazy as I had a head cold. Maggie and I found an 8 story mall that entertained us for a while and a large store referred to as the Mustafe Center. The Mustafe center is like a Walmart on steroids. Picture a Walmart with very narrow isles, then stack 6 of them on top of each other and you have the Mustafe Center. Anything you could ever want or need you could find in one giant epic 6 story shopping excursion.

On one of the other days we did a walking tour of China Town. It was informative, interesting, and gave us a great overview of not only how Chinatown came to be, but the whole Country of Singapore and it’s crazy laws we all hear about. By the way, you can chew gum here, it’s just illegal to sell!

On my last night in Singapore before picking Garrett up from the airport, I ventured downtown by myself to take some pictures of the city. This was my first trip downtown and it was absolutely stunning. I stumbled upon a water and light show. Along the waterfront they spray water up into the air and then project images and lights on the spray to the sound of music. It was a very unique and beautiful show. Following that show I wandered over to the super tree garden. I was amazed at the pieces of art that replicated trees that are all light up with solar power. The trunks of them were even covered in air plants to make them alive pieces of art. As soon as I arrived at the magical super tree forest, the trees began to change colors and dancing to the tunes of Christmas songs. It was yet again another impressive show. Heading back to the waterfront I just happen to stumble upon the water show starting again, so I had to stay and watch it once again. My experience downtown that night was beautiful, it really made me connect with Singapore. The city/country is beautiful to the eye and is also a cohesive congregation of races, religions, and ideas. Singapore has a lot going for it, and I would love to see it again in more detail in the future.

To top off the night, I headed to the airport to pick up Garrett. I wore a full body Santa Suite to get into the Christmas spirt! He wasn’t fooled, and quickly spotted me in the crowd before coming through security.
